What the request form asks you to provide
A participant may not speak more than once on the same topic until others who want to speak on that topic have been heard. Current guidance also says unused time cannot be yielded to another person.
Student privacy: do not publicly disclose IEP documents, health diagnoses, custody documents, disciplinary records, passwords or other private student information during public comment. Use the student-specific administrative process for records that staff need to review privately.

Choose the 2026–27 registration route
The current page provides PowerSchool enrollment links in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
Create the family enrollment account
Follow the online prompts for the child being enrolled.
Upload the required documents
You may upload them yourself, or bring them to Central Registration and have staff upload them.
Complete in-person verification
TPS says online registration is followed by an in-person meeting. Even uploaded documents still need to be reviewed in person by staff.
Complete each child’s application
A separate child-specific registration is required for each student, although the enrollment system can reuse some family information.
Registration document checklist
Do not rely on older “New to TPS” registration instructions. Some old FAQ material still references earlier school years and appointment-only registration. The current 2026–27 Registration page says virtual registration plus in-person verification, with walk-ins accepted.
Protect registration documents: birth certificates, residency records, custody orders and health records are sensitive. Submit them only through the PowerSchool enrollment route linked by TPS or directly to Central Registration staff.

TPS describes the program as free full-day preschool for children ages 3 and 4 who reside in the City of Trenton.
2026–27 opening
Citywide enrollment opened May 1, 2026.
Location choice
Families are encouraged to contact the preferred preschool location directly to arrange the registration appointment.
Space is limited. TPS tells families that preschool locations can fill quickly, so completing the process early matters.

Parent Connect identifies a dedicated Homeless Liaison and explains that families without a primary nighttime residence may qualify for McKinney-Vento services intended to protect educational stability.

Use the district’s McKinney-Vento route rather than assuming ordinary housing paperwork prevents a child from receiving school help.

Parent Connect provides a referral form for a youth or family without a primary nighttime residence.
If housing is temporary, doubled-up, unstable or otherwise uncertain, contact the district’s liaison instead of delaying school help while trying to satisfy a standard residency workflow on your own.
Trenton bus passes, assigned stops and current Transportation office
Current department location: Transportation has relocated to 1490 Prospect Street, Ewing, NJ 08638.
Old extension conflict: older “New to TPS?” material still references ext. 4873. The current Transportation department page lists 4874, so use the live department page.

The Walking School Bus is a suggested-route program for groups of children walking to and from school. TPS says routes were developed with school administrators, Trenton Police, Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association and NJDOT.
Suggested routes
Routes are intended to provide more direct and safer walking paths near student residences.
Crossing guards
The district works with Trenton Police around crossing-guard coverage on suggested routes.
High school
TPS says suggested WSB routes are not provided for high-school students because of the large number of possible paths.

Yes. TPS says its Community Eligibility Provision participation allows school breakfast and lunch to be served at no charge to all enrolled students regardless of household financial condition.

The menu page organizes breakfast/lunch documents into grade-level folders.
CEP does not mean every family form becomes irrelevant. TPS also provides a School Meals and Summer EBT application/resource. Follow current district instructions if household information is needed for another benefit.
Food allergy or disability-related menu change
For a medically certified disability requiring a menu substitution, TPS directs families to its Request for Special Dietary Accommodations process. The school nurse and Nutrition Services review the request.

Phone-free Grades 4–12: how Trenton’s Yondr system works
TPS currently says Yondr pouches are being implemented in all Grades 4–12 schools to create phone-free learning environments.
Arrival
Students place their cellphone and covered personal devices into their assigned pouch.
School day
The locked pouch stays with the student, but covered devices remain inaccessible.
Dismissal
Students unlock their pouches at designated stations and regain access to the devices.
Cellphones
Placed in the pouch during the school day.
Smartwatches
Current FAQ identifies smartwatches as covered devices.
Wireless earbuds
Devices such as AirPods are also identified in the FAQ.
Need to reach your child during school? TPS instructs parents/guardians to call the school’s main office. Staff will get the message to the student.
Lost or damaged pouch: the district says each school will communicate replacement procedures and any related cost. Do not assume one districtwide replacement price unless the school publishes it.

Up to approximately 837 K–6 students.

Not every disagreement automatically meets the legal/policy definition of HIB. The school can determine which student-support, conduct or HIB process applies based on the facts.

Delivery/postage fees can be additional. The form also says extraordinary service fees may depend on the request. Requests for copies exceeding $25 may require a deposit; anonymous requests, when permitted, can require a 100% deposit of estimated fees.
How the seven-business-day framework actually works
Use the correct Trenton BOE form
The district’s form says it is specifically for requests to the Trenton Board of Education.
Send it to the appropriate custodian
The request is not considered filed for OPRA timing simply because it reached any district employee.
Describe the records specifically
The form tells requesters to identify the records, access type and requested data medium as specifically as possible.
Watch for grant, denial or timing notice
For currently available records not in storage, the form describes grant/denial notification within seven business days after the proper custodian receives the request.
Storage or unavailable records may take longer
The custodian can instead advise within that period when the records can be made available and the estimated cost.
Do not say “all OPRA records must be delivered in seven days.” The official form describes a response framework and expressly allows timing arrangements when records are unavailable, stored or otherwise require additional handling.
Transcript ≠ OPRA. Private education records, student medical information and other protected student records can involve privacy laws and a separate district process.
