Chatham County School Calendar, Board Office & Parent Help

In Savannah and Chatham County, the official local school board is called the Board of Public Education for the City of Savannah and the County of Chatham. It governs the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, commonly shortened to SCCPSS.

This guide puts the school calendar, Board meetings, Board office contacts, registration, school zones, bus help, records, jobs and parent services in one place. Chatham County has several district locations in use during the Central Office renovation, so the address you need depends on the task.

Public participation

How to speak at a Savannah-Chatham school board meeting

SCCPSS provides a public-comment period during every regular monthly Board meeting. Residents may sign up in advance, or use the Board’s Public Comment Form at the meeting if they have not registered beforehand.

1

Check the Regular Meeting

Public comment is tied to the regular monthly Board meeting, so verify the date and scheduled start time first.

2

Sign up online when possible

The official Request to Speak page links the advance public-participation signup.

3

If you did not pre-register, arrive early

SCCPSS says same-day speakers must sign in no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled meeting start.

4

Plan for about three minutes

The Board lists three minutes as the general public-comment limit, although the presiding officer may establish a different limit with Board approval.

5

Do not plan to play a presentation or video

The Board says digital media such as PowerPoint presentations and videos are not permitted for playback during public comment.

Student privacy: use a private district or school process for individual student records, disability information, discipline, health or family matters. A public Board comment becomes part of a public meeting setting.

Student registration

How to register a student in SCCPSS for 2026–27

SCCPSS uses a two-step K–12 registration process for new students and most students transferring within the district. Kindergarten students must register, while normal grade-level moves from elementary to middle or middle to high school do not use the same transfer process.

1

Confirm the assigned school

If you are unsure which school serves your address, use the district’s Find My School tool and enter the home address and grade level.

2

Gather required documents first

Prepare the certified birth certificate, current proof of address and parent or guardian government-issued ID before starting the online form.

3

Complete the online registration

The district’s 2026–27 registration system is available online and supports English and Spanish.

4

Upload supporting records

Additional records such as immunization and health forms should be uploaded according to the district’s document requirements.

5

Use in-person help if needed

Walk-in assistance is available at the Student & Family Service Center, 400 East Broad Street, Savannah, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Required at the start

Certified birth certificate

Proof of address dated within the past 30 days

Parent/guardian government ID

Health documentation

Georgia Form 3231 immunization certificate must be supplied within 30 days of enrollment.

Georgia Form 3300 vision, hearing, dental and nutrition certificate must be supplied within 120 days.

Proof-of-address trap: SCCPSS says items such as cable bills, phone bills, bank statements, pay stubs, voter-registration cards, DMV documents and handwritten leases are not accepted as proof of address.

School buses

Chatham County school bus routes and transportation help

SCCPSS publishes school bus stops through InfoFinder I and warns families that route information can change during the first several weeks of school because of enrollment changes and routing adjustments.

Use this for general parent transportation concerns.

Transportation Administration

912-395-3002

Use the Transportation department for operational help.

Bilingual phone help

912-395-5591 or 912-395-6009

The district lists both numbers for bilingual assistance.

Here Comes the Bus: SCCPSS uses the Here Comes the Bus app so families using district transportation can monitor a bus’s location and receive route notifications.

Different bus request: the district says a child needs school-administrator approval to ride a different bus, and the change must be coordinated with the assigned Field Supervisor.

Daily schedule

2026–27 school bell times are school-specific

Do not assume every Savannah-Chatham school starts at the same time. SCCPSS publishes separate approved bell times for elementary, K–8, middle, high, charter and alternative schools.

Many elementary schools

Many elementary campuses are listed at 9:15 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with bus arrival around 8:55 a.m.

Some schools differ

For example, the current table lists Bloomingdale and Pooler Elementary at 8:40 a.m.–3:40 p.m.. Always check the individual school row.

Board district

A school Board district is not the same thing as a student attendance zone. Board districts align with Chatham County Commission boundaries.

2026–27 temporary locations

Several schools and departments have temporary or updated locations because of long-range facility projects. Verify the current 2026–27 Locations Guide before visiting.

Records

Open records, transcripts and student files use different SCCPSS routes

The Board website links an Open Records Request for public district records. Student transcripts, diplomas and education records have separate records-management routes and should not be treated as ordinary public records.

Open public records

Use the SCCPSS Open Records Request route for qualifying public district records and Board-related public documents.

Common mistakes

Chatham County school search problems and the fastest fix

β€œI went to the wrong office.”

Check the department first. Board contact, district hosting, registration, HR and transportation are currently associated with different locations.

β€œI found 208 Bull Street and 190 Technology Circle.”

Both appear on official SCCPSS pages for different purposes during the Central Office renovation. Call the responsible department before traveling.

β€œI need the next Board meeting.”

Use the Board Calendar. Do not assume the regular meeting starts when the informal session starts.

β€œI want to speak at the meeting.”

Sign up online when possible. Same-day sign-in must occur no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled Regular Meeting.

β€œMy bus stop changed.”

Check InfoFinder I again. SCCPSS warns that route information can change during the first weeks of school.

β€œMy proof of address was rejected.”

Review the district’s accepted-document list. Phone bills, cable bills, bank statements and several other common documents are specifically excluded.

β€œI need a transcript.”

Use Records Management, not the public Open Records route.

β€œI don’t know my Board district.”

Use the Board’s Find My School District resource. Board-representation districts follow Chatham County Commission boundary lines.

Before you act

Use the office that matches your Chatham County school task

Use the Board Office for Board meetings, Board resources and public-participation questions. Use Registration for enrollment, Transportation for buses, Records Management for transcripts and student records, and Talent & Human Resources for employment.

The extra location check matters in Savannah right now because SCCPSS is operating through a Central Office renovation and several departments have moved. A quick call before an in-person visit can save a trip to the wrong building.

Independent information guide: BoardofEducations.org is not SCCPSS, the Board of Public Education, Chatham County government or the Georgia Department of Education. Current official SCCPSS notices control whenever a meeting, calendar, address, form, school boundary or transportation detail changes.
