Board meetings

Habersham County Board meetings: work session vs. regular meeting

Habersham County Schools does not treat every Board gathering as the same type of meeting. Its official page lists work sessions, regular monthly Board meetings, strategic-planning sessions and budget hearings separately.

For October 2026, the district scheduled a work session on October 1 at 4:30 p.m. and a regular monthly Board meeting on October 5 at 6:00 p.m. Both are listed for the Board Room.

Work Session

Habersham’s work sessions are separately dated and often held before the regular monthly meeting. Use the published work-session agenda and summary when researching that session.

Regular Monthly Meeting

The regular meeting has its own agenda and later meeting summary. Do not assume something discussed in a work session became formal Board action.

2026 date Session Published detail
Jan. 8 Work Session Agenda and summary published.
Jan. 12 Regular Board Meeting Agenda and monthly meeting summary published.
Feb. 5 Work Session Agenda and summary published.
Feb. 9 Regular Board Meeting Agenda and monthly summary published.
Feb. 26 Strategic Planning Separate strategic-planning agenda and summary.

June 11 Work Session Published 2026 work-session record.
June 15 Regular Board Meeting Published monthly meeting record.

July 27 Regular Board Meeting Agenda and summary published.
Sept. 10 Work Session 4:30 p.m., Board Room.
Sept. 14 Regular Board Meeting 6:00 p.m., Board Room.
Oct. 1 Work Session 4:30 p.m., Board Room.
Oct. 5 Regular Board Meeting 6:00 p.m., Board Room — next listed regular meeting as of Oct. 2.

Do not rely on an old recurring pattern. Meeting dates have varied during the year and special sessions, strategic-planning meetings and budget hearings appear separately. Recheck the live Board schedule before driving to a meeting.

How to verify what happened at a Habersham Board meeting

The district keeps separate agenda and summary files for many Board sessions and also provides a route to recent Board-meeting video. Use each source for the question it actually answers.

1

Confirm the session type

Check whether the date is a work session, regular monthly meeting, called meeting, public hearing or strategic-planning session.

2

Read the agenda before the meeting

The agenda tells you what is scheduled for discussion or consideration.

3

Use the meeting summary afterward

A posted agenda item is not proof that the Board ultimately took the expected action. Check the later summary or official record.

4

Watch recent meetings for context

The district homepage and Board section link a recent-meeting viewing route. Video can help with context, but the official written Board record remains important.

District structure

Habersham County Schools directory

Habersham County operates a larger countywide school network than many nearby districts. For classroom, attendance, pickup, teacher, nurse or student-record questions, the child’s school is usually a better first call than the Board office.

New students

Habersham County new student registration

Habersham uses a centralized registration process for new students. Families first submit an online form for each new student, then the enrolling parent visits Centralized Registration at 165 Raider Circle, Mount Airy, GA 30563 with the required documents and signatures.

1

Submit the 2026–27 online form

Complete one online registration form for each new student.

2

Visit Centralized Registration

The office is on the Ninth Grade Academy campus at 165 Raider Circle in Mount Airy. The district lists hours of 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

3

Bring identity and custody documents

Bring a certified birth certificate. The enrolling parent’s name must appear on it unless other custodial paperwork applies. Bring the enrolling parent/guardian’s photo ID as well.

4

Bring Social Security card or waiver

The district accepts the student’s Social Security card or a signed waiver; waiver forms are available from the registration office.

5

Bring qualifying proof of residency

The district specifies a current power, water or natural-gas utility document showing service at the Habersham 911 address. Regular mail such as bank or insurance statements is not accepted as the required utility proof.

6

Bring Georgia health forms

Bring Georgia Immunization Form 3231 and Georgia Certificate of Eye, Ear, Dental and Nutrition Examinations Form 3300 completed through the appropriate physician or health department.

If the utility is not in your name

The district says an affidavit of residency with notarized signatures and a current utility bill in the owner/lessor’s name is required when the enrolling parent does not have qualifying proof in their own name.

Academic records go elsewhere

Previous schools should send grades and attendance records to the child’s new school, not to Central Registration. Enrollment documents still have to be brought to Central Registration.

Processing: the district says registrations can take up to 24 hours to process once all required documents are received. The process is not complete until the online form and required documents/signatures are in.

Transportation

Habersham school buses and route questions

Habersham’s Transportation Department describes a fleet of about 135 school buses with approximately 100 full-time bus drivers. Stephanie Walker is currently listed as Transportation Director.

Route question

Contact the student’s school or Transportation Department rather than relying on an old route list.

New rider or moved?

Reconfirm routing after an address change. The district notes that road construction and emergency conditions can also affect pickup/drop-off availability.

Bus stop timing

The Transportation safety page advises students to arrive at their stop at least five minutes before the scheduled pickup time.

Why you may not find a public route list: the district says it does not maintain a public listing of bus routes after the school year has started for safety reasons. Contact the school or Transportation Department instead.

School social work

Habersham school social workers assist with social, emotional, family, economic, attendance and adjustment issues that can affect student success.

The Social Work offices are based at the OASIS Center on the Ninth Grade Academy campus in Mount Airy.

Privacy: student disability, health, discipline, custody, grades and other education records should be handled through the appropriate private school or district process, not discussed publicly at a Board meeting.

Records

Board records and student records use different routes

Habersham’s Board meeting page is the right route for agendas, meeting summaries and governance records. Student records follow a different process.

The district’s Records page has a particularly important warning: its online records portal is for submitting records, not requesting them. Student-record requests should be sent directly to the appropriate school registrar.

Board records

Use the Board meeting page for agendas, summaries, schedules and governance documents.

Student-record request

Contact the student’s school registrar directly for records such as school files or transcript-related requests.

Records portal

Do not assume the online portal is a request form. The district explicitly says it is for submitting records.

“I can’t find a bus-route list.”

The district says public bus-route listings are not maintained after the school year starts for safety reasons. Contact the school or Transportation.

The online form alone does not complete registration. You still need the required documents and signatures at Centralized Registration.

“The meeting is not the date I expected.”

Habersham uses varying work-session and monthly-meeting dates. Check the live schedule instead of calculating a recurring date.

“I used the records portal to request a transcript.”
