JCPS Board Meetings, 2026–27 Calendar, School Choice & Family Help
Jefferson County Board of Education information changed significantly in 2026. This guide covers Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Kentucky, with the current Board transition, member information, meetings, 2026–27 calendar, registration and school-choice help.
It also explains practical family tasks that general Board pages often do not: how to find the correct school by address, use the right parent account, request a transfer, solve a bus-assignment problem, track a bus, request a transcript, obtain public records and reach the right JCPS office.
Do not use the old seven-district JCPS Board member list
Important: older JCPS pages, cached results and the previous version of this article can still show the former seven numbered districts and James Craig as District 3. That listing is no longer the correct current contact structure.
Senate Bill 4 changed Jefferson County Board representation in 2026. During the transition, existing members were assigned among five newly established districts and temporary at-large positions.
James Craig later resigned. The current JCPS Board page lists Taylor Everett in District 3 and shows one at-large position as vacant.
Current-page status checked August 14, 2026: Districts 1–5 are represented by Tricia Lister, Corrie Shull, Taylor Everett, Trevin Bass and Gail Logan Strange; Linda Duncan is listed at large; one at-large position is vacant.
The vacancy application is no longer open. JCPS required appointment applications for the vacant at-large position by 4:30 p.m. on July 31, 2026. Do not use a cached “Apply” result as if the deadline is still active.
Use JCPS’s live Board page before contacting a member or identifying a district.

Current JCPS Board members and the 2026 transition
The confusing part of 2026 is that there are two concepts at once: the temporary transition arrangement visible on today’s JCPS page and the future five-member elected Board structure.
| Current transition position | Current JCPS listing | Status |
|---|---|---|
| District 1 | Tricia Lister | Active listing |
| District 2 | Corrie Shull | Board Chair |
| District 3 | Taylor Everett | Active listing |
| District 4 | Trevin Bass | Active listing |
| District 5 | Gail Logan Strange | Active listing |
| At-Large | Linda Duncan | Transition listing |
| At-Large | Vacant | James Craig vacancy |
Why did this change?
During the May 12, 2026 work session, existing members drew assignments under the new district structure created by Senate Bill 4.
The transition initially placed James Craig in District 3 and Taylor Everett at large. After Craig resigned, the current JCPS page changed again and now lists Everett in District 3 with an at-large vacancy.
Through December 31, 2026
JCPS is operating through the transition of existing Board terms and assignments.
Beginning in 2027
The November 2026 election implements the new five-district elected Board structure with staggered terms.
Do not permanently hard-code a representative from a pre-May 2026 article. Board representation changed during the transition and will change again after the 2026 election.
The current JCPS Board page includes an address-based Board District finder.

| Teacher or classroom problem | Teacher / school | The school has student-specific context. |

JCPS Board meetings: location, time, agenda and livestream
Before going to a Board meeting
Check the current schedule
Do not assume this month’s meeting follows a date from an older calendar or search result.
Confirm the meeting type
Business meetings, work sessions and special meetings may have different agendas or procedures.
Open the agenda before traveling
Check whether the subject you care about is actually listed for information, discussion or action.
Read the meeting notice
Verify room, public-access details, livestream instructions and any meeting-specific changes.
The JCPS Board page links the approved 2026 schedule, broadcasts and meeting materials.
Check current JCPS Board meeting information →Agenda, minutes, broadcast and policy manual are different resources
Agenda
Use before a meeting to see planned business and attachments.
Minutes
Use after approval when you need the formal written record.
Broadcast
Use to hear Board discussion and context when available.
Policy Manual
Use when you need the current adopted policy—not simply what was discussed.
Research tip: when documenting a Board decision, record the meeting date, agenda-item name and final action. A news story or video timestamp alone is weaker evidence than the formal meeting record.
Can you speak at a Jefferson County Board meeting?
JCPS’s Board page includes public-participation information, and the Board Policy Manual contains a specific Public Participation in Open Meetings policy and associated forms/procedures.
Confirm you are looking at the correct meeting
Public participation can depend on meeting type and current Board procedures.
Read the current participation rules
Do not reuse an old sign-up deadline, form or speaker-time limit.
Prepare one clear topic
Use a short factual summary and identify the action or concern you want the Board to understand.
Protect student privacy
Do not publicly disclose medical records, IEP details, discipline records, passwords, Social Security numbers or private custody documents.
Board meeting ≠ customer-service desk. For an individual student’s immediate issue, the school or responsible department may be faster and more appropriate than waiting for public comment.
JCPS committees can matter before a full Board decision
📚 Educator Quality Oversight Committee

Choose the correct calendar
📅 Parent Calendar
Best for family planning, student days and major school-year dates.
🌎 Translated Parent Calendar
JCPS provides multiple language versions including Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Somali, Spanish and Swahili, plus additional translations.
👩🏫 Employee Calendar
Useful for staff work schedules; do not substitute it for the parent calendar.
🧸 Early Childhood Calendar
Use for Early Childhood dates that may differ from normal K–12 planning.
Do not plan from an old PDF screenshot. Reopen the current calendar before booking travel, childcare or appointments around a school break.
JCPS Calendar at a Glance provides the current Parent Calendar and translated versions.
Check the current JCPS school calendar →Who should register for JCPS—and who should not?
Register
New JCPS students, previously enrolled students returning from another district, or a new student being added to the household.
Do not re-register
The JCPS landing page specifically warns families not to register current students unnecessarily.
Proof of residence
When JCPS requires an address update or proof of residence, the proof must show the parent/guardian’s name, the address and generally be current within the past 30 days.
Registration workflow
Confirm registration is actually needed
Do not create another registration for a student already actively enrolled unless JCPS instructs you to.
Register the new student
Provide the required household and student information through the official registration system.
Provide current proof of residence
Make sure the parent/guardian name and primary address match the household information.
Move to the correct school-assignment step
Registration and school application are related but are not the same action.
Private-document warning: registration can involve sensitive household and student information. Start through a JCPS-owned application route before uploading any documents.
The JCPS Registration and Application Landing Pad separates registration, household updates and school-application actions.
Open the JCPS Registration & Application Landing Pad →JCPS School Finder, magnet applications and 2026–27 deadline status
Current-date status: the initial 2026–27 application period ended December 19, 2025. Late option/magnet choices were accepted only through August 6, 2026 when space remained. As of August 14, that late-choice date has passed.
Do not confuse these school-choice tasks
| Task | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Register | The student is new, returning from another district or being newly added to the household. |
| School Finder | You need address-based school information for the correct school year. |
| Apply for School | The student’s placement requires a school application, magnet/optional selection or other applicable choice. |
| Student Transfer | An already assigned/enrolled student’s situation fits the current discretionary transfer process. |
School Finder is not a simple “nearest school” map. Enter the actual home address and choose the correct school year. ZIP code, subdivision name or physical distance alone does not confirm assignment.
Use the official JCPS School Choice landing system and School Finder instead of a third-party school locator.
Open JCPS School Choice tools →JCPS student transfer application window
Do not use a transfer form just because you moved. JCPS specifically tells families moving to a new address to update the address and use the applicable zone/school-application process rather than automatically filing a Student Transfer Request.
Read the transfer rules before submitting so you do not use the wrong workflow after a move or program change.
Review current JCPS Student Transfer rules →JCPS Parent Account and Infinite Campus are not the same thing
JCPS Parent / application account
Used in JCPS registration, household and school-application workflows.
Infinite Campus Parent
Used for ongoing student-information functions such as grades, attendance and related student data.
Portal Activation Key: JCPS school-assignment workflows may request the student’s Parent Portal account or a Portal Activation Key when processing actions such as a transfer.
Account-security rule: never send a Portal Activation Key, password, student ID or grade screenshot to an unofficial “JCPS support” website.
Transportation Portal, Bus Teller and My Ride K-12: which tool do you need?
| JCPS tool | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Transportation Portal | Submitting or reviewing how a student gets to and from school and required transportation verification. |
| Bus Teller | Viewing assigned bus-stop information. |
| My Ride K-12 | Real-time GPS bus location and estimated arrival information during 2026–27. |
The June 8 deadline has already passed
June 8, 2026 was the deadline to submit the Transportation Verification form in time to guarantee an eligible student’s bus assignment for the first day of school.
JCPS warned that late submissions could experience a bus-stop assignment delay during the first two weeks of school.
Current action: because school began August 6, families still missing a route should check the Transportation Portal and Bus Teller now, then contact the school or Transportation Services rather than relying on the expired June reminder.
Who is eligible for JCPS transportation in 2026–27?
Basic bus rules families should remember
⏰ Arrive early
JCPS advises students to be at their stop about five minutes before the bus.
🚌 Use the assigned bus
Students should ride their assigned bus rather than casually switching routes.
📍 Use the designated stop
Students should normally leave at their assigned stop.
✍️ Stop changes
A requested change may require written parent/guardian communication and school approval.
The district Transportation page brings together Bus Teller, verification information and specialized transportation guidance.
Open JCPS Student Transportation Services →My Ride K-12 is the 2026–27 GPS tracking tool; it is different from Bus Teller’s assignment function.
Read the JCPS My Ride K-12 setup guide →JCPS breakfast and lunch cost for 2026–27
Standard breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost to JCPS students for 2026–27. JCPS is participating in Community Eligibility across the district, so students can participate without paying the normal meal fee or submitting a household application for those standard meals.
Breakfast
No standard student meal charge under 2026–27 Community Eligibility.
Lunch
No standard student meal charge under the same program.
Educational Benefits Form
JCPS still encourages families to complete it because it can affect eligibility for other benefits and school funding.
Early Childhood exception: households with Early Childhood students still need to complete the applicable annual meal application for the CACFP snack program.
Nutrition Services provides current menus, allergen resources and dietary-support information.
Open JCPS Nutrition Services →How to request a JCPS transcript or student record
| Your situation | Correct route |
|---|---|
| Currently enrolled student | Contact the student’s current JCPS school for records or a transcript. |
| Former student age 18+ | Use the online records-request system or call 502-485-3141 for recorded instructions. |
| Former student age 18+ needs staff help | JCPS lists 502-485-3211 for additional assistance. |
| Former student under age 18 | Call the Records Room at 502-485-3213. |
| Employer/college graduation verification | Use the former adult-student/Data Control process when applicable. |
Do not use the public Open Records process for a private student transcript request. Education records have separate privacy and release procedures.
How to request a public JCPS or Board record
Written request
JCPS says Open Records requests are not accepted by phone.
Official form optional
JCPS provides a standardized request form, but requesters are not required to use it.
Response timing
JCPS says applicants will be notified within five business days after receipt of a written request.
Paper copies
$0.10 per page. Other physical media may be charged at actual production cost.
Identify the record precisely
State the document, date range, department or subject as clearly as possible.
Submit the request in writing
Use an approved written method. Calling the Open Records phone number does not itself file the request.
Watch for the response
The coordinator will advise whether records are available or explain why they are not available for inspection.
Confirm copy costs if applicable
Paper copies and mailing can create costs even when inspection itself is available.
Use JCPS’s Open Records page for current written submission methods and the standardized optional form.
Open JCPS Open Records instructions →Bullying, attendance and behavior concerns: where to begin
Bullying concern
Start with the school when appropriate, then use JCPS Bullying Prevention resources if further support is needed.
Attendance
The JCPS Pupil Personnel Department helps schools and families address attendance barriers and compulsory-attendance requirements.
Behavior support
JCPS maintains Student Behavior Support and other Culture & Climate services for school-based support needs.
Emergency caution: a website article, public Board meeting or routine district email is not an emergency-response service. Use appropriate emergency channels for an immediate safety threat.
JCPS phone numbers by task
| Task | Phone | Use it for |

Common JCPS problems and the fastest next step
👥 Google shows James Craig as District 3
Fix: use the current JCPS Board page. The transition listing has changed since the May assignments.
🗓️ You need the next Board meeting
Fix: check the current schedule and KSBA meeting materials instead of relying on a recurring pattern.
📅 Two school calendars appear
Fix: verify 2026–27 and use the current Parent Calendar, not an older employee or school-year PDF.
🏫 You do not know the assigned school
Fix: use the exact home address in the JCPS School Finder.
📝 Magnet deadline has passed
Fix: determine whether the family now needs registration, normal assignment or the still-open transfer route.
🔐 Your login is rejected
Fix: first determine whether the task needs the JCPS application account or Infinite Campus Parent.
🚌 No bus assignment appears
Fix: check Transportation Portal and Bus Teller, then contact the school or Transportation Office.
📍 You recently moved
Fix: update the household address and submit current proof before relying on old assignment or bus data.
🎓 You need your transcript
Fix: use the student-record process, not Open Records.
📂 You need a public Board document
Fix: file the request in writing through JCPS Open Records.
🍎 Someone says lunch has a normal price
Fix: standard JCPS breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost in 2026–27 under Community Eligibility.
💬 You have a student-specific complaint
Fix: start at the school or responsible department unless the matter truly requires Board-level governance action.
Jefferson County Board of Education FAQs
What is the official Jefferson County Board of Education website in Kentucky?
The Jefferson County Board of Education for Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville is covered on the official JCPS website at jefferson.kyschools.us. The Board page contains current members, district information, meeting resources, policies and committees.
Who are the current JCPS Board members?
As checked August 14, 2026, JCPS lists Tricia Lister in District 1, Corrie Shull in District 2 and as Board Chair, Taylor Everett in District 3, Trevin Bass in District 4, Gail Logan Strange in District 5, Linda Duncan at large and one vacant at-large transition position.
Why do older pages show seven different JCPS Board districts?
JCPS representation changed during 2026 after Senate Bill 4. Existing Board members were reassigned during a transition to five new districts, and James Craig later resigned. Older pages can therefore show district/member combinations that are no longer current.
Where are regular Jefferson County Board meetings held?
Recent regular meetings identify Stewart Auditorium at the VanHoose Education Center, 3332 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40218, as the primary public location. Always confirm the current notice because special meetings and committees can differ.
What time do regular JCPS Board meetings start?
Recent regular business and work-session meeting information lists 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Verify each meeting because not every Board or committee meeting uses the same schedule.
When did JCPS start the 2026–27 school year?
The first student day was August 6, 2026. The current Parent Calendar should be used for break dates, conferences, holidays and the planned May 24, 2027 last day.
Can I still submit a JCPS student transfer application?
The 2026–27 Student Transfer Application Period runs from May 4, 2026 through March 5, 2027. Approval is not guaranteed, schools over capacity are unavailable through the transfer application and transportation may not be provided.
What is the difference between Bus Teller and My Ride K-12?
Bus Teller is used to view assigned bus-stop information. My Ride K-12 is the 2026–27 real-time bus tracking tool that provides GPS location and estimated-arrival information.
Are JCPS breakfast and lunch free in 2026–27?
Yes. JCPS says all district schools provide standard breakfast and lunch at no cost to students for 2026–27 through Community Eligibility. Early Childhood snack-program paperwork is a separate requirement.
How do I request a JCPS transcript or a public district record?
Current students should start with their school. Former students use the applicable student-record/Data Control route. Public JCPS documents use the separate written Open Records process. Do not use Open Records as a substitute for a private transcript request.
Final Jefferson County Public Schools verification checklist
