Deadline alert: the district’s published August 1, 2026 first-payment deadline for approved out-of-district students and August 1 affidavit-renewal deadline are now in the past. If these apply to your student and were missed, contact ECPS for the current instruction rather than treating an old approval as sufficient.

District-size data note: ECPS’s current homepage uses two presentations of district scale. Introductory copy describes about 11,200 students across 17 accredited campuses plus the Technical Center, while the Fast Facts block displays 11,342 enrolled students and 20 campuses. Because those figures are presented differently by ECPS itself, this guide does not turn either number into a fixed school-count claim.

Schedule can change: ECBOE tells families to watch district communications, local media and parent notifications for changes and special called meetings.
Minutes are not immediate. The district says only approved Board minutes are posted, so a recent meeting may have an agenda but no final approved minutes yet.

The current School Board page says five speaking slots are available 15 minutes before the meeting.
Open-forum boundary: ECBOE says personal attacks against a Board employee or student are not allowed. Do not publicly disclose private student grades, health information, IEP details, discipline files, custody records or other protected records.

Use the Board-approved calendar for districtwide student-day and break planning.
Campus events
Use the individual school site for athletics, performances, parent nights, bell schedules and local activities.
Changes
Use ParentSquare and district/school announcements for emergency, weather or operational changes.
Current-year correction: 2025–26 is no longer the school year families should treat as the active planning calendar in August 2026. Use the 2026–27 file.

Missed August 1? Because that deadline is already past as of this audit, contact ECPS for current payment/enrollment instructions rather than assuming the student can start based on the approval email alone.
Living in Elmore County but requesting another community’s school
Confirm it is really a hardship request
Hardship is for an Elmore County resident requesting a school different from the normal zoned school.
New request? Gather the required school records
The current 2026 instructions require applicable grades, attendance and discipline documentation for new hardship applications.
Principal decision
The district says the hardship decision is up to the school principal as part of the review process.
Plan your own transportation
The school of choice is outside the student’s regular route.
Already on a hardship? The specific 2026 Registration page says not to submit a new hardship request for the upcoming year; existing hardship placements were automatically reviewed for approval or denial.
Conflicting generic wording: ECPS’s general Enrollment overview broadly says special enrollment requests are annual, while the detailed current Registration page gives specific automatic-review or automatic-renewal instructions for some existing hardships and employee transfers. Affidavit renewal, documents and appointment help

Review the official Affidavit Requirements and gather all requested residency evidence before your appointment.
Notarization
ECPS currently says affidavits can be notarized at the Board office for $5.
First-time affidavit
Current registration guidance directs first-time affidavit families to schedule an appointment and lists 334-567-1290.
2026 renewal deadline: ECPS says an existing affidavit had to be renewed before August 1, 2026 for the student to start school. That date has passed; contact the district if renewal was not completed.

Use the school for daily attendance and the district form for advance requests
Same-day absence
Start with the student’s school attendance office or the official attendance route supplied by that campus.
Planned absence
Administrative Services currently maintains a Prior Approval / Pre-Approval Absence form among district resources.
Choice enrollment: attendance matters beyond ordinary attendance consequences. Excessive absences can also affect hardship and out-of-district approval under current registration guidance.

Special Education, IEP and Section 504 contacts

For evaluation, IEP, placement, related-service or special-education records questions, begin with the student’s school team or district Special Education department.
Section 504
Section 504 addresses access and disability-related accommodations outside or alongside IDEA eligibility, depending on the student.
2026 parent resources: ECPS currently publishes an IEP Team Tip Sheet for Parents and an IEP Team Meeting Guide for Parents, along with Alabama’s “Mastering the Maze” special-education procedural resources.
Do not send an IEP publicly. IEPs, evaluations, medical documentation, behavior plans, custody files and disability records should be sent only through official school/district processes.

Kindergarten later: a child in an ECPS child-development program who will enter kindergarten still follows the district’s New Student Registration instruction for kindergarten.
