Jersey City Board of Education: Calendar, Meetings & Registration

🏫 Jersey City Public Schools • Hudson County, New Jersey

Use the Right JCPS Calendar, Board Meeting, Registration and Parent Resource the First Time

Jersey City Board of Education searches cover many different tasks: 2026–27 school dates, Board agendas, public comment, trustee information, K–12 or Pre-K registration, Infinite Campus, transportation, school zones, Special Education, bullying reports, student records and employment. This guide separates those processes so families and residents do not waste time on the wrong page or form.

Current JCPS information also contains a few important conflicts—including a 2026–27 calendar PDF still marked draft and different official addresses shown for caucus meetings. Those conflicts are clearly flagged below so you know when to verify a live notice before acting.

Jersey City BOE 2026 caucus and regular meeting schedule

The annual Board schedule establishes the base caucus and regular-meeting dates, but special notices and amended dates can override it. Always verify the live meeting entry before leaving home.

Caucus Regular meeting Current note

Important caucus-address conflict: the official annual schedule and current Board Meeting page identify Room 1R at the JCBOE Building as 1 Halstead Avenue. The district’s live August Events calendar instead lists the Aug. 25 caucus at JCBOE Building, 346 Claremont Ave., Room 1R. Do not guess—verify the latest meeting notice or call the Board Secretary’s office before traveling.

Regular Public Meeting

5:30 p.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School, PS #11, 886 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306, according to live Events entries.

ZIP-code detail: the annual Board schedule prints NJ 07305 for the regular meeting location, while the current school/live Events address is 886 Bergen Avenue, NJ 07306. Use the live event/school address for navigation after checking the current meeting notice.

✓ Proof of residency: district examples include utility/phone documentation.
✓ Proof of age: birth certificate.
✓ Immunization records: current health documentation.
✓ Transfer card: when arriving from another school.
✓ Transcript / latest report card: when available.

Open Enrollment is a request, not a guarantee. JCPS says students are normally assigned based on their home address; requests for another school are reviewed based on the reason, available space and district considerations.

Home-school finder

How to find the Jersey City school assigned to your address

JCPS defines a student’s home or assigned school through an address-based attendance zone. If you move within Jersey City, do not assume the child’s assigned school automatically remains the same.

1

Use the district attendance-zone tool

Enter/check the precise home location rather than choosing the nearest school by visual distance.

2

Confirm the assigned school

JCPS also publishes an attendance-zone file for boundary reference.

3

If uncertain, call Registration

JCPS directs families to 201-915-6111 or 201-915-6201 for home-school information.

4

Use Open Enrollment only if requesting another school

A preferred school and an assigned home school are different concepts.

Need your assigned school?

Use the district attendance-zone page before submitting registration to the wrong campus.

Pre-K registration

Public-school Pre-K vs contracted childcare registration

🏫

JCPS Public School Pre-K

Register through the JCPS Pre-K portal and school-zone process.

🧸

Contracted Child Care Center

Contact the contracted center directly for registration and questions.

One program per child: JCPS instructs residents to choose Childcare OR Public School Pre-K and complete registration at only one program for the child.

2026–27 portal opened March 1, 2026
March 31 significance If home-school registrations exceeded available slots, children registered by March 31 could enter the described placement lottery.
After March 31 The district states registration remains open beyond March 31.
Alternative placement JCPS says a child may be offered another public-school location based on lottery results; transportation is provided in that described situation.
Registering for Pre-K?

Multilingual intake and selective-school admissions

🌎

New to the United States

JCPS says a student recently arriving from another country must first use the Multilingual Intake Center—even when the child speaks English—so language and transcript placement can be reviewed appropriately.

🎓

Selective schools

McNair Academic High School, Innovation High School and Infinity Institute use a separate selective admissions process.

Do not reuse an old admissions deadline. Selective-school applications operate by admission cycle. Check the current School Admissions information instead of relying on a previous McNair/Infinity deadline.

Student transfer

What JCPS asks for when transferring a student

Receiving-school document

The transfer form asks for an acceptance/registration document from the school receiving the student, or the applicable transfer-out documentation described by JCPS.

JCPS-to-JCPS transfer

JCPS says proof of residency should also be uploaded when transferring from one Jersey City Public School to another.

Residency examples shown on the transfer page include NJ driver’s license/state ID, utility or phone/cable bills, lease-company documentation, employment documents, benefit statements and other listed evidence.

Weather and schedule changes

A normal calendar day can still become a delayed opening

JCPS maintains a separate Delayed Openings Schedule. The annual calendar tells you whether school is generally scheduled, while a weather notice can change the actual start time.

1. Check the newest district alert: do not rely on an earlier weather message.
2. Check Delayed Openings: determine the altered arrival time.
3. Check transportation: bus timing can change with the delayed schedule.
4. Check the school page: building-specific details may be posted separately.

Where is the Jersey City Board of Education office?

JCPS central office is at 346 Claremont Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07305. Board meeting locations can be different, so always check the meeting-specific notice.

When is the next Jersey City Board of Education meeting?

As reviewed August 15, 2026, the next scheduled caucus is August 25 and the next regular meeting is August 27, both beginning at 5:30 p.m. Because the official sources currently conflict on the caucus address, verify the latest meeting notice before traveling.

How do I speak at a Jersey City BOE meeting?

Use the official Public Comment form. Under the current general rules, speakers are requested to keep remarks to three minutes. General-comment requests may be submitted until 3:00 p.m. on meeting day, while agenda-item notification may be made up to the start of the meeting.

When is the first day of Jersey City Public Schools in 2026?

The current district Events calendar lists September 10, 2026 as the first student day and describes it as a full-day session.

Is the JCPS 2026–27 calendar final?

The district navigation labels the file as the 2026–27 calendar, but the official PDF itself still displays DRAFT – 2/9/26. Use the live district Events calendar as the final verification for date-sensitive decisions.

How do I register a child in Jersey City Public Schools?

Start from JCPS Registration Information and choose the process that fits the student: normal K–12, Pre-K, multilingual intake, selective admissions, Open Enrollment or school transfer.

How do I find my child’s assigned Jersey City school?

Use the JCPS School Attendance Zones tool for the precise home address. Families can also call 201-915-6111 or 201-915-6201 for home-school information.

Who is the Jersey City Board of Education President?

The current official trustee page lists Noemí Velázquez as Board President and De’Jon Morris as Vice President. One additional trustee position currently appears as TBD, so verify the full roster before formal use.

Before you act

Final Jersey City Public Schools verification checklist

✓ Board meeting: verify the specific date, location and latest notice—not only the annual schedule.
✓ Caucus address: current official sources conflict, so confirm before travel.
✓ Public comment: distinguish a regular in-person voting meeting from a special meeting with different access instructions.
✓ School calendar: remember that the linked 2026–27 PDF still carries a draft label.
✓ Registration: choose K–12, Pre-K, multilingual, selective admissions, Open Enrollment or transfer correctly.
✓ Assigned school: use the address-zone tool instead of assuming the nearest building.
✓ Infinite Campus: reach the portal through JCPS before entering credentials.
✓ Childcare: verify 2026–27 CASPER/Morning STARS fees before paying because the page still references 2025–26 materials.
✓ Student records: use Student Record Request or Special Education Records—not OPRA—for private student files.
✓ Board roster: recheck the currently TBD trustee position before quoting all nine seats.
