Correct authority

Board of Education, district office or school: where should you start?

The Bibb County Board of Education is the governance body for the school district. Meeting agendas, Board policies, Board-member information, major budget actions and official Board decisions belong in the Board/Simbli route.

Daily student matters usually do not. Attendance, pickup, class schedules, nurse questions and teacher communication are normally school-level tasks, while registration, transportation, records and HR have their own district departments.

Use the Board route for

Board meetings, policies, agendas, official actions, committee work, Board members and major governance decisions.

Use district departments for

Registration, transportation, HR, open records, student affairs, attendance zones, finance, technology and special programs.

Use the student’s school for

Today’s absence, pickup, teacher contact, daily schedule, transcript questions and other campus-specific needs.

Agenda, minutes & Board Brief

How to check what the Bibb County Board actually discussed or approved

BCSD links its formal Board information to Simbli. The district also publishes a Board Brief newsletter summarizing information presented and actions taken at meetings. Use the brief for a readable recap, but use the agenda and official record when the exact Board action matters.

1

Open the BCSD-linked Simbli site

Start from the district’s Board of Education link rather than a random search result for an old agenda PDF.

2

Match the meeting type and date

Committee, called, budget, public-hearing and regular Board meetings can have different materials.

3

Read agenda attachments

Supporting documents often contain the useful detail behind a budget item, policy revision, contract or facilities proposal.

4

Check the official action afterward

An agenda shows planned business. Use the later Board record or approved minutes to verify what was actually adopted.

5

Use Board Brief for a plain-language recap

BCSD’s communications team publishes Board Brief summaries for many Board meetings and budget sessions.

2026 Board Brief archive

The archive includes regular, called, budget and retreat updates from 2026.

New student enrollment

How to register a student in Bibb County School District

BCSD separates currently enrolled families from families who are new to the district. A current BCSD family adding another child should begin through Parent Portal; a new family uses the New Student Registration process.

Pre-K age

The child must be 4 years old by September 1 for the applicable school year.

Kindergarten age

The child must be 5 years old by September 1.

First-grade age

The child must be 6 years old by September 1.

Documents BCSD asks families to prepare

Birth: certified birth certificate.
Social Security: student’s Social Security card.
Immunization: Georgia Form 3231.
Health screening: Georgia Form 3300 for hearing, vision and dental screening.
Parent/guardian ID: government-issued photo identification.
Residency: lease or mortgage plus one additional approved proof such as a current utility bill, recent tax return, property tax statement, automobile registration/insurance or qualifying government mail.
School records: last report card or transcript when applicable.

Residence document not in the guardian’s name? BCSD says an Affidavit of Residence must be obtained from the school. The parent and the person with whom the family lives complete the affidavit at the student’s school and should arrange an appointment with that school.

Protect enrollment documents: birth certificates, Social Security information, immunization records and proof-of-residence documents should only be submitted through BCSD’s approved registration process or directly to the school—not to BoardofEducations.org.

Current Macon district update

School consolidation proposals are not currently moving forward as previously presented

BCSD announced on September 11, 2026 that it was pausing consideration of the school-consolidation scenarios previously presented to Board members in August. The district said there would be no consolidation recommendation to the Board based on those scenarios at that time.

The district’s next step is a new advisory-committee process involving Board members, district leaders and consultants. BCSD says the committee will establish evaluation criteria, review data and community feedback, and help shape any future options.

For families: do not treat the earlier consolidation scenarios as final school closures, assignments or Board decisions. Follow later BCSD notices and Board agendas for any future recommendation.

Georgia Open Records

Bibb County BOE records vs student records

BCSD accepts public Open Records requests by email or mail. This is the appropriate route for qualifying district records that are not already available through Board agendas, finance pages, public notices or other district resources.

Open Records email openrecords@bcsdk12.net
Mailing department Bibb County School District, Attn: Open Records Requests, Communications Department.
Mailing address 484 Mulberry Street, Suite 400, Macon, GA 31201.

Board/public records

Meeting materials, approved actions, policies, budget reports and other qualifying district records can belong in Board/Simbli or Open Records channels.

Student records

Transcripts, grades, attendance, health records and education records should use the student-record or school process, not a public Board request.

Family routes

Parent Portal, records, calendars and school information

The BCSD Parents area is a useful starting point when the task is not actually a Board issue. It brings together New Student Registration, Academic Calendars, Parent Portal, Pre-K, immunization information, Section 504, transcripts, student privacy notices and family resources.

Parent Portal

BCSD encourages parents to maintain their own Parent Portal account for grades, attendance, schedules, student-information updates and school notifications.

Transcript request

Use the district’s transcript route rather than asking a Board member for an individual student’s academic record.

Student privacy

The parent section links the district’s Student Records and Privacy Notice. Keep confidential records out of public Board correspondence.

Transportation

Bibb County school bus questions

Transportation is part of BCSD Operations. A student’s route, stop or pickup issue should go through the district’s transportation/school channels rather than an individual Board member.

Missed or late bus: check the current transportation information and contact the school or transportation department.
Bus rules: the Operations section separately publishes bus rules and school-bus safety information.
Address change: registration/residency updates can affect the correct school and transportation assignment.
Job search: transportation hiring is separate from parent route assistance.

Meeting participation

Before planning to address the Bibb County Board

BCSD has previously directed the public to Board Policy BCBI for meeting and public-hearing participation rules. Because the current indexed sources reviewed for this update did not expose a complete, current speaker-signup procedure, this guide does not invent a registration deadline or speaking-time limit.

1

Open the current meeting agenda

Check whether that specific regular, called or public-hearing meeting includes public-participation instructions.

2

Review current Board policy

Use the district-linked Simbli policy system rather than relying on a copied rule from an older meeting.

3

Protect student privacy

Do not read confidential student education, health, disability, discipline or family records into a public meeting when a private school/district process is appropriate.

4

Confirm before traveling

If participation instructions remain unclear, contact BCSD before the meeting rather than assuming an older procedure still applies.
