Open Public Comment and Agenda Public Comment are different

🗣️

Open Public Comment

Use this for a matter relevant to School Board work that is not on the published agenda. This opportunity is associated with regular Board-meeting procedures.

📋

Agenda Public Comment

Use this when you want to speak on an action item or proposition that is on the agenda for an applicable meeting, hearing or rule-development workshop.

1

Wait for the agenda

OCPS allows online advance speaker registration once the agenda has been released.

2

Decide whether your issue is on the agenda

That determines which public-comment category applies.

3

Register using the current official process

Do not rely on a prior meeting’s screenshot or paper-signup instructions.

4

Written comment is also available

Current instructions allow public comments to be sent to publiccomment@ocps.net by 5:00 p.m. the day before an applicable meeting.

No telephone speaker option: the current procedure says speakers cannot participate by telephone during Open or Agenda Public Comment.

Work sessions are different: the public can attend, but OCPS does not provide ordinary public comment because the Board is studying/discussing issues rather than taking formal action.

Student privacy: do not publicly disclose a student’s IEP, diagnosis, discipline file, student ID, DOB, address, custody documents, password or other protected education information when addressing the Board.

Important 2026 change

OCPS enrollment is now fully online

Families can now complete the core enrollment process from a phone, tablet or computer, upload required documents by photo/file and track application progress online.

🆕

New to OCPS

Create a new enrollment account through the official OCPS online-enrollment system.

👨‍👩‍👧

Already have an OCPS student

Sign in through Parent Portal / LaunchPad and choose Online Registration to add a sibling or access eligible transfer/Magnet functions.

1

Find the zoned school first

Use the exact home address, not just city or ZIP code.

2

Choose the correct enrollment account

New family and existing OCPS family routes are different.

3

Complete each application section

Enter accurate student, guardian, address and prior-school information.

4

Upload readable documents

Use clear photos or scans without cropped names, addresses, dates or signatures.

5

Submit and monitor status

Return to the enrollment system and watch your email if the reviewing school requests additional information.

Some special cases still require help. Verification of Residence, educational guardianship and other unusual situations may require Student Enrollment assistance even though the standard registration process is online.

Enrollment preparation

Documents to gather before you begin

✓ Legal name: qualifying birth record, passport or another document accepted under current OCPS/Florida requirements.
✓ Age: age-verification documentation for kindergarten, first grade or new enrollment.
✓ Parent/guardian identification: prepare the required identification for the enrolling adult.
✓ Residence: prepare the ownership, lease or qualifying residence documents that match your situation.
✓ Physical: proof of a physical examination by a U.S. doctor within one year of enrollment.
✓ Immunization: Florida Form 680 or an applicable recognized exemption.
✓ Academic history: prior report card, transcript, withdrawal information or other applicable academic records.
✓ IEP / 504: provide the current plan when applicable so receiving staff can prepare appropriate services.

Immigration-status protection: OCPS states that staff must not request a passport, visa or other document for the purpose of verifying a student’s immigration status.

Need exact document requirements? Open OCPS Required Documents →
Kindergarten & first grade

Florida age rules used by OCPS

5️⃣

Kindergarten

A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten.

6️⃣

First grade

A child must be 6 years old on or before September 1 and have completed kindergarten, subject to applicable requirements.

VPK is separate. Voluntary Prekindergarten uses OCPS Early Childhood/VPK resources rather than the ordinary K–12 enrollment pathway.

Attendance zones

Use the address lookup—not the Board district map

Students are zoned to schools according to the home address. OCPS provides both map and text-based tools for identifying the assigned elementary, middle and high school.

School attendance zone

Determines the child’s zoned school based on the residence and current attendance boundaries.

School Board district

Determines elected Board representation. It does not determine the child’s attendance assignment.

Search-tool caution: OCPS warns that the entered address must appear in the map tool’s dropdown for the system to return the correct schools. Its text-search results may also not immediately reflect rezoning changes approved during the current school year.

Need the assigned school? Open OCPS Find My School →
School choice

Magnet, Controlled Open Enrollment and other transfers

Choice route How it works Current caution
Magnet Specialized-program application and seat-offer process. Current Summer Waitlist closes Aug. 24, 2026; transportation is not provided for Magnet programs.
Controlled Open Enrollment Capacity-based transfer to a receiving school on the current available-school list. Availability is periodically revised and can differ by school or grade.
Medical / Psychological Qualifying medical or psychological reason supported by appropriate documentation. Transportation generally is not provided under these transfer categories.
Pending Move May allow attendance at the future zoned school when qualifying move documentation shows the occupancy timing. Current rules require supporting legal move/occupancy documentation.
Rising 5th / 8th / 12th Allows qualifying students affected by a move to request completion of the terminal grade at the previous school. Transportation is not provided.

Magnet deadline: the current Summer Waitlist application must be submitted electronically by August 24, 2026. Applying does not guarantee a seat.

Transfer approval is not the final step. OCPS says approved online transfer requests must be accepted in the platform within 15 days or the request is canceled.

2026–27 bus information

Find My Bus, e-Link and My Stop

OCPS made 2026–27 route assignments available beginning August 1. Enrolled families can use e-Link for the student’s current assigned route.

1

Not enrolled yet?

Use Find My Bus to check whether the residence may be eligible for transportation service.

2

Registered student?

Open e-Link from the official Find My Bus page.

3

Use the current e-Link credentials

The username is the student’s 10-digit OCPS ID; the password is the student’s date of birth in MMDDYYYY format.

4

Select the student

After signing in, choose Students → View → My Students → the student’s name to display current route information.

Credential privacy: a student’s OCPS ID and date of birth can function as bus-route login credentials. Do not post either publicly or send them to an unofficial site.

Wednesday early release: OCPS says early-release bus times are not displayed as a separate schedule in e-Link. Unless otherwise noted, Wednesday buses run one hour earlier.

Where is the student ID?

OCPS says it may be available in Skyward, on a report card or from the school after proper identification.

Need live bus estimates?

Versatrans My Stop can provide GPS-based estimated arrival/departure information and current route information when available.

LaunchPad, Skyward, Canvas and ParentSquare

System Main purpose Best troubleshooting route
Parent Portal / LaunchPad Gateway to family applications including Online Registration and Skyward. Use official Parent Portal guidance or current Parent Portal Concerns form.
Skyward Student-information system for grades, attendance and other student data. OCPS says contact the student’s school first for registration/login/use issues.
ParentSquare District, school and teacher communications through email, text and app. Check that the preferred email and phone stored in Skyward are correct.
Canvas Parent Course and instructional information. Use OCPS Parent Portal support when the parent application itself is failing.

OCPS began using ParentSquare for district/school communication in July 2025. ParentSquare accounts sync from preferred contact information held in Skyward.

Phishing protection: OCPS itself limits publication of large employee email directories because of cyberattack, spam and phishing concerns. Always start from ocps.net or the verified school site when logging into family systems.

School-level ESE help first, Parent Support Ticket when needed

1

Start with the school team

For an IEP, evaluation, service or accommodation issue, begin with the appropriate teacher, staffing specialist, administrator or IEP team.

2

Record what remains unresolved

Keep the dates, issue, requested action and responses so the district can understand the concern.

3

Use ESE Parent Support

The Parent Support Ticket is designed for concerns already raised at school but not resolved, as well as requests for further district resources.

ESE office 1600 E. Kaley St., Orlando, FL 32806
Phone 407-897-6420

ESE bus issue: OCPS directs families to begin with the School Staffing Specialist. If unresolved, contact Transportation; current ESE guidance asks families to allow 48 school-week hours for a Transportation response before further escalation through Parent Support.

Keep records private: use the official ESE process for IEPs, evaluations, medical documents and other protected education information.

Start with the school counselor or use OCPS Student Services and Mental Health Services resources when a student or family needs support.
