No telephone speaker option: the current procedure says speakers cannot participate by telephone during Open or Agenda Public Comment.
Work sessions are different: the public can attend, but OCPS does not provide ordinary public comment because the Board is studying/discussing issues rather than taking formal action.
Student privacy: do not publicly disclose a student’s IEP, diagnosis, discipline file, student ID, DOB, address, custody documents, password or other protected education information when addressing the Board.

Severe-weather priorities: the official calendar identifies February 15, April 23, November 23 and November 24 as prioritized makeup dates after other alternatives are considered.
Weather can override the printed calendar. OCPS may use approved alternatives or calendar adjustments when instructional time is lost.

Some special cases still require help. Verification of Residence, educational guardianship and other unusual situations may require Student Enrollment assistance even though the standard registration process is online.
Documents to gather before you begin
Immigration-status protection: OCPS states that staff must not request a passport, visa or other document for the purpose of verifying a student’s immigration status.
Florida age rules used by OCPS
Kindergarten
A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten.
First grade
A child must be 6 years old on or before September 1 and have completed kindergarten, subject to applicable requirements.
VPK is separate. Voluntary Prekindergarten uses OCPS Early Childhood/VPK resources rather than the ordinary K–12 enrollment pathway.
Use the address lookup—not the Board district map
Students are zoned to schools according to the home address. OCPS provides both map and text-based tools for identifying the assigned elementary, middle and high school.
School attendance zone
Determines the child’s zoned school based on the residence and current attendance boundaries.
School Board district
Determines elected Board representation. It does not determine the child’s attendance assignment.
Search-tool caution: OCPS warns that the entered address must appear in the map tool’s dropdown for the system to return the correct schools. Its text-search results may also not immediately reflect rezoning changes approved during the current school year.

Magnet deadline: the current Summer Waitlist application must be submitted electronically by August 24, 2026. Applying does not guarantee a seat.
Transfer approval is not the final step. OCPS says approved online transfer requests must be accepted in the platform within 15 days or the request is canceled.

OCPS made 2026–27 route assignments available beginning August 1. Enrolled families can use e-Link for the student’s current assigned route.

Credential privacy: a student’s OCPS ID and date of birth can function as bus-route login credentials. Do not post either publicly or send them to an unofficial site.
Wednesday early release: OCPS says early-release bus times are not displayed as a separate schedule in e-Link. Unless otherwise noted, Wednesday buses run one hour earlier.

OCPS began using ParentSquare for district/school communication in July 2025. ParentSquare accounts sync from preferred contact information held in Skyward.

Check CEP status before completing a Meal Benefit Application
CEP school
Students at participating Community Eligibility Provision schools receive breakfast and lunch at no charge. A Meal Benefit Application is not required to receive those meals.
Eligible non-CEP / newly opened school
Check the live Meal Benefits page to determine whether the student’s school is currently eligible to submit the Meal Benefit Application.
Other economic benefits: OCPS also provides a Household Economic Survey because economic-status verification may help families qualify for certain non-meal benefits such as fee waivers or outside service discounts.
School-level ESE help first, Parent Support Ticket when needed
Start with the school team
For an IEP, evaluation, service or accommodation issue, begin with the appropriate teacher, staffing specialist, administrator or IEP team.
Record what remains unresolved
Keep the dates, issue, requested action and responses so the district can understand the concern.
Use ESE Parent Support
The Parent Support Ticket is designed for concerns already raised at school but not resolved, as well as requests for further district resources.
ESE bus issue: OCPS directs families to begin with the School Staffing Specialist. If unresolved, contact Transportation; current ESE guidance asks families to allow 48 school-week hours for a Transportation response before further escalation through Parent Support.
Keep records private: use the official ESE process for IEPs, evaluations, medical documents and other protected education information.

Do not rely on a prior-year discipline screenshot. Conduct, attendance, device-use and progression policies can be updated by the School Board or changes in state law.
